Tunwal Supports Large-Scale Mula-Mutha River Clean-Up with 1200+ Students in Pune

Tunwal E-Motors Limited joined over 1200+ students from multipleeducational institutions across Pune for a large-scale cleanliness and awareness drive along the Mula-Mutha River bank at Deccan, Pune. The initiative, called “White T- Shirt Revolution – River Cleaning Drive”, helped restore a key stretch of one of Pune’s most important ecological landmarks, with volunteers removing over 600 kilograms of plastic waste, debris, and discarded materials from the riverfront. The collected waste was later handed over to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for proper segregation, processing, and disposal.

The Mula-Mutha River has long been central to Pune’s cultural and ecological identity. However, rapid urbanisation and increasing pollution have posed significant challenges to the river’s health over the years. Recognising the urgent need for environmental restoration, Tunwal supported the student-led initiative by providing clean-up kits and actively participating in the on-ground clean-up and awareness efforts.

The initiative aimed to encourage greater civic responsibility and highlight the impact of collective community action in addressing environmental challenges. Alongside the clean-up drive, students also conducted awareness activities focused on waste management, plastic pollution, and the importance of preserving urban water bodies in rapidly growing cities.

The event was graced by the presence of several eminent personalities from diverse fields, underscoring the significance and reach of this charitable initiative. Among the attendees were B. Shreenivas, representing the Priyadarshani Foundation; Yashwamati Thakur; and Smt. Alpana Varpe, Corporator, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The event also saw the participation of Abhay Chajjed from the Pune Marathon Committee; Vandana Chauhan, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha; Satish Patil, Vice President, S.Y. School, and Anil Kawade, Chairperson & IS Officer, Sugar Cooperation Department, Government of Maharashtra.

Speaking on the initiative, Jhumarmal Tunwal, Chairman and Managing Director at Tunwal said,“Seeing over 1200 young changemakers come together for this cause is truly inspiring. As a company, we believe in giving back to the community and supporting initiatives that create a meaningful environmental impact. Sustainability is at the core of what we do, and drives like these reflect our shared vision of building cleaner, greener, and more responsible cities for the future.”

In line with its commitment towards sustainability and community-driven impact, Tunwal has consistently supported initiatives focused on environmental awareness and responsible mobility.
