World Environment Day emphasizes that environmental protection requires systemic change. The day highlights how human activities affect the planet and what can be done to reduce harm while restoring ecological balance. EVs and renewable energy are key pillars of this transition toward a more sustainable future. While electric vehicles reduce carbon emissions, it supports cleaner energy systems by working alongside renewable energy as solar powered charging stations are an important step toward making electric mobility even cleaner and more sustainable. This helps the entire cycle to become much cleaner, reducing dependence on fossil-fuel-based electricity.
This World Environment Day, electric mobility platform Bijliride has launched its new digital campaign film, “#ChotiRideBadaKal”, driving home the message that sustainable choices do not need to be dramatic. The campaign is anchored in the central philosophy: “Aapka Safar, Desh Ka Sudhar” (Your Journey, The Nation’s Progress). Through its affordable EV rental model, Bijliride aims to show that you do not have to be an environmental activist to make a difference—sometimes, simply choosing a cleaner way to handle your daily travel is enough to protect the planet, one trip at a time.
The campaign film shifts the focus away from grand corporate promises to highlight the ordinary, relatable journey of a young delivery rider using a rented Bijliride electric scooter. Like millions of working Indians, his immediate focus is entirely on managing his daily commute and earning a livelihood, rather than changing the world. As his day unfolds through a series of realistic, slice-of-life moments—including deliveries, quick chai breaks, and routine errands—every kilometer he rides quietly cuts down carbon emissions and fossil fuel consumption without him even realizing it.
The emotional turning point arrives at the end of the day when a child in his family points out the cumulative positive impact of his travel. What felt like a routine, ordinary commute suddenly becomes a deeply meaningful contribution toward a greener future. Built with minimal dialogue and natural city ambiance, the film avoids preachy environmental lectures, focusing instead on raw human connection and the quiet power of everyday choices.
“At Bijliride, we have always believed that true environmental change doesn’t happen in corporate boardrooms through grand annual promises—it happens on the streets, one kilometre at a time,” said Vishal Vikram, Co-Founder, Bijliride. “Our World Environment Day film, #ChotiRideBadaKal, is a tribute to the millions of everyday Indian commuters, gig workers, and students. They aren’t riding our EVs to be environmental activists; they are riding to build their livelihoods and save on rising fuel costs. Yet, through their smart, everyday choices, they are quietly leading India’s green mobility revolution. By making electric mobility affordable and completely frictionless, Bijliride is proving that when you empower common people to look after their daily pockets, they naturally end up looking after the planet.” The digital film is now live across all of Bijliride’s social media and digital platforms.
Besides Bijliride, other key players in the industry also actively participated in the World Environment Day in their own ways. Talking about the adoption of electric vehicles, Akshay Shekhar, Co-Founder and CEO of Kazam said, “The conversation around India’s EV transition has decisively moved past early adoption. But as we scale, we have to confront a hard truth, an electric vehicle is only as clean as the grid that powers it. Today the scale demands that we start rethinking about how we manage energy intelligence. Nature operates on perfectly balanced, decentralized ecosystems. That is exactly how we need to build our energy infrastructure. The real unlock for India isn’t just building more chargers, it’s turning homes, apartments, and workplaces into smart, decentralized energy hubs. When we align residential charging with renewable sources, we stop drawing blindly from a stressed grid and start trading energy intelligently.
At Kazam, we see this shifting on the ground. By enabling over 100,000 charging points and deploying 1.5 lakh+ home chargers, especially for high-usage 3-wheelers, we aren’t just cutting tailpipe emissions. We are helping drivers capture 25-30% savings in operating costs, directly strengthening livelihoods in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets through efficient energy management. For World Environment Day, our focus must go beyond the vehicles. Our future depends on building a grid-aware, solar-aligned ecosystem that ensures the energy moving India forward is as clean as the intent behind it.”
On World Environment Day, it is important to recognize that the path to a more sustainable future will be shaped by solutions that can create impact at scale while fitting seamlessly into everyday life. Transportation remains one of the most visible areas where small individual choices can collectively drive significant environmental change. As India moves toward cleaner and more efficient mobility, electric vehicles are emerging as a practical way to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower the environmental footprint of daily travel. At Zelio E-Mobility, we believe the greatest opportunity lies in enabling widespread adoption through accessible, reliable, and affordable electric mobility solutions. Electric two wheelers, in particular, have the potential to accelerate this transition because they serve millions of daily commuters across the country. However, true sustainability extends beyond vehicle adoption to include battery longevity, resource efficiency, responsible manufacturing, and long term ownership value. Building a cleaner future requires creating mobility solutions that are not only environmentally responsible but also practical enough to become part of everyday life for millions, added Kunal Arya Co- Founder & MD at Zelio E-Mobility.
Jhumarmal Tunwal, Promoter, Chairman & Managing Director – Tunwal E-Motors Limited further says, “World Environment Day is a reminder that a cleaner future isn’t built by governments or industries alone it belongs to all of us. Transportation accounts for nearly 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making it a critical area for climate action.
As our mobility needs continue to grow, it is important that we embrace cleaner and more sustainable ways to travel.
Electric vehicles are helping accelerate that change. In India, EV registrations crossed 2 million units in 2025, showing that more people are embracing cleaner mobility options.
Government initiatives, improved charging infrastructure, and growing awareness among consumers are all contributing to this positive shift.
While there is still a long way to go, the direction is encouraging. At Tunwal, we are proud to be part of this journey. On World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting cleaner mobility and playing our part towards building a future that is better for our communities, our environment, and the generations that follow.”
Elaborating on the importance of generating energy in an environment-friendly way, Amit Jain, CEO & Country Manager India & MD Renewables & Batteries SEA, ENGIE says, “World Environment Day is a moment to reflect on the close link between energy and the environment. As demand for electricity continues to grow, our responsibility is clear; not just to produce more energy, but to do so in a way that is sustainable and future ready. Renewable energy is at the heart of this shift, helping reduce emissions, preserve natural resources, and strengthen long-term resilience.
India has made significant progress, with around half of its installed capacity now coming from non-fossil sources and a clear pathway towards its 500 GW ambition. The focus ahead must be on ensuring this clean energy is reliable and flexible enabled by storage, hybrid solutions, and smarter energy management.”
Meanwhile, employees of WattPower Systems, a global renewable energy company, participated in a plantation drive not as a mandate, but as a choice.
The initiative reflects the company’s “Wired for Good” philosophy: that energy is a force connecting progress, people, and the planet, and that this connection is built as much through everyday action as through infrastructure.
Divya Prakash Choraria, CEO & Co-founder, WattPower Systems, said, “Sustainability is not something you build into a product line it is something you build into your people. When our team chose to show up on World Environment Day, not because they were told to, but because they wanted to, that told us everything. At WattPower, societal impact is not a backdrop to our business. It is the reason we are in this business.”
The plantation drive is one expression of WattPower’s belief that meaningful impact goes beyond the energy solutions it delivers. For the team, it was a reminder that a greener future isn’t only built through infrastructure it’s built through intent, and through the people who show up for it.”
Solar energy plays a vital role in protecting the environment by providing a clean, renewable, and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
“As India moves towards its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, World Environment Day reminds us that sustainability is not just an environmental priority, it is central to the nation’s economic growth and development. India’s solar manufacturing journey, from 2.3 GW of module capacity in 2014 to 172 GW today, reflects the strength of the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
At Goldi Solar, we are proud to be a part of this transformation, having scaled our manufacturing capacity from 3 GW to 15.2 GW in just 14 months, an achievement unmatched in the Indian renewable energy industry. As renewable energy adoption continues to accelerate, the focus must also be on building a strong domestic manufacturing ecosystem that supports India’s energy independence, creates jobs, and strengthens our position in the global clean energy value chain.
The countries that lead the energy transition will be those that can innovate and manufacture at scale. India has that opportunity today, by combining environmental responsibility with domestic manufacturing capability, we can build a cleaner, more self-reliant, and prosperous future for generations to come,” Ishver Dholakiya, Founder & Managing Director of Goldi Solar.
Ankur Jain, Managing Director of Ankur Scientific says, “As conversations around climate change and sustainable development continue to grow, there is an increasing focus on solutions that can meet energy needs while making better use of available resources. At Ankur Scientific, we have always believed in the potential of biomass as a renewable source of energy that can create value from agricultural and organic residues while supporting local communities.
This World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to developing clean energy solutions that contribute to energy security, support rural economies, and help reduce environmental impact. We believe meaningful progress comes from practical, scalable solutions that deliver both economic and environmental benefits.”
Not only EV companies and renewable energy firms, but educational institutions also actively participated in World Environment Day.
On this context, Dr. Prof. Anand Achari, Principal of VES College of Architecture says, “As the world observes World Environment Day, it is important to recognize that the choices we make today have a lasting impact on the world around us. For architects, designers, and the students who will shape the built environment of tomorrow, this responsibility begins long before a building is constructed. It starts with the ideas we develop, the materials we choose, and the way we think about the relationship between people and their environment.
This is especially important when we consider that buildings and construction account for nearly 37% of global energy-related carbon emissions. As our cities continue to grow, the need for thoughtful and sustainable design has never been greater. Creating environmentally conscious spaces is no longer an option, it is becoming an integral part of good design.
At VESCOA, we encourage our students to look beyond aesthetics and understand the broader impact of their work. On World Environment Day, we hope to inspire future architects to create spaces that are not only functional and meaningful but also contribute positively to the environment and the communities they serve.”
Dr Sanjeev Vidyarthi, Provost, Anant National University mentions, “Nature is not merely a resource to be protected; it is a source of inspiration for how we design, build and live. The theme of World Environment Day 2026, ‘Inspired by Nature, For Climate. For Our Future,’ reminds us that many of the solutions to climate change already exist in the intelligence of natural systems like resilience, adaptability, circularity and regeneration.
As educators, designers, architects, researchers and innovators, we have a responsibility to translate these lessons into meaningful action. Whether through climate-responsive architecture, sustainable materials, resilient urban systems, thoughtful product design, or community-centred solutions, the challenge before us is to create futures that are both environmentally responsible and socially equitable.
At Anant National University, we believe that addressing climate change requires more than technological advancement. It demands imagination, interdisciplinary collaboration and a deep understanding of the relationship between people, places and the planet. By learning from nature, we can design a future that is not only sustainable but regenerative.”
