The Ministry of Power has issued a draft of the Revised Guidelines & Standards for EV Charging Infrastructure, inviting comments from stakeholders. The revised consolidated guidelines are expected to boost the e-mobility transition in the country, superseding previous guidelines in this regard.
The guidelines would be known as the ‘Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024’ and the provisions of these guidelines would be applicable to owners/operators of EV charging infrastructure installed in privately owned parking spaces, semi restricted places like office buildings, educational institutions, hospitals, Group Housing Societies, e-bus depots and in public places like commercial complexes, railway stations, petrol pumps, airports, metro stations, shopping arcades, municipal parking and on highways, expressways etc.
The guidelines are made with an aim to enable faster adoption of electric vehicles in India by ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible charging infrastructure and ecosystem, provide rationality in service charges to be charged by owners/operators of charging station, support creation of EV Charging Infrastructure and facilitate the preparedness of the Electrical Distribution System to adopt EV Charging Infrastructure.
The guidelines define terms like Battery Charging Station (BCS), Battery Swapping Station (BSS), Captive Charging Station (CCS), Central Nodal Agency (CNA), Charge Point Operator (CPO), Charger Management System (CMS), Community Charging Station, etc.
