The Maharashtra government has given clearance to JSW Energy and JSW Green Mobility – two JSW Group companies, to set up manufacturing facilities for electric vehicles and batteries. Around seven new investment projects have recently been approved by the state government.
With an investment of INR 25,000 crore, JSW Energy will build a lithium-ion battery plant in Nagpur. This project is expected to create 5,000 new jobs. Meanwhile, JSW Green Mobility would invest around INR 27,200 crore in Auric, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to establish manufacturing facilities for electric and hybrid vehicles, chargers and modules.
An investment of INR 81,167 crore has been approved by the Maharashtra government’s Cabinet Sub-Committee on Industries. This would create 23,136 employment opportunities in the state. Of this investment, INR 75,632 crore and 19,000 employment opportunities would be created in the renewable energy, emobility and FAB/semiconductor manufacturing sectors in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Maharashtra is one of the leading Indian states that is seeing a growing shift to green mobility. In CY2023, the state ranked second on the all-India EV ownership scale with 376,803 units and an 11 percent share.
Earlier this year, JSW Group joined hands with the Odisha government to set up an Integrated Electric Vehicles (EV) and EV Battery Manufacturing Project in Cuttack and Paradip with an investment of INR 40,000 crore.
