Haryana CM Flags Off New EVs for Garbage Collection in Gurugram

Taking a massive step towards sustainability, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently flagged off 50 new electric vehicles in Gurugram for door-to-door garbage collection besides inaugurating cloth bag and sanitary pad vending machines. With these new electric vehicles, the total number has crossed 500.

These cloth bag vending machines will be installed at various public places in Gurugram where citizens can get cloth bags by inserting a 10-rupee coin or using UPI. This will go a long way in discouraging the practice of using single-use plastics. Meanwhile, the sanitary napkin vending machines will allow for the disposal of used pads besides providing new pads.

In a bid to monitor the cleanliness system in all wards of the corporation area, 19 HCS officers have been assigned by Municipal Corporation of Gurugram. The cleanliness system and dumping of garbage waste are being monitored under the Solid Waste Environmental Excellence Performance (SWEEP) standard.

SWEEP is an initiative launched to promote sustainable waste management practices. The initiative aims to transform the materials management industry helping it become more environmentally conscious, innovative, and efficient. It identifies sustainable best practices and serves as a roadmap for continued, sustainable success.
