Phoolvi Agarwal, Co-Founder, HyOn Energy
My Journey and Achievements
Hyon Energy was founded to accelerate the clean energy transition through green hydrogen, solar PV, and waste-to-energy solutions. Our mission is to bridge sustainability, energy security, and economic growth, ensuring clean energy is scalable and commercially viable. Growing up in India, I witnessed the rising pollution levels, deteriorating air quality, and energy challenges firsthand. Recognizing that sustainability is not a choice but a necessity, I pursued a Master’s in Energy & Environmental Sciences at the University of Groningen, specializing in sustainability analysis, carbon footprint assessment, and energy consulting. After gaining hands-on experience in decarbonization strategies, I returned to India to establish Hyon Energy, driving impactful, scalable solutions. My work extends to strategic consulting, industry collaborations, and policy engagement, while also leading Women in Green Hydrogen – South Asia Chapter. Through science-driven innovation, I strive to shape a cleaner, more resilient energy future for India.
Challenges as a Woman Leader & How I Overcame Them
Clean energy and hydrogen are largely technical and policy-driven fields where women’s leadership is still evolving. Gaining credibility and ensuring my voice is being heard in key industry discussions requires continuous learning, persistence, expertise and data-backed decision-making. I notice that there are fewer women in leadership roles and decision-making spaces. To overcome this, I actively engaged in global sustainability networks, became a leader in Women in Green Hydrogen – South Asia Chapter, and fostered mentorship and collaboration. Along with that, establishing Hyon Energy meant navigating funding, partnerships, and scaling innovations, often in spaces dominated by traditional energy players. By leveraging technical expertise, sustainability analysis, and policy insights, I have built credibility and secured collaborations with key stakeholders. Overcoming these challenges has strengthened my resolve—not just to lead, but to pave the way for more women in clean energy.
Future of Sustainable Mobility & Women’s Role
The future of sustainable mobility and energy is set to be decentralized, digitalized, and decarbonized. With green hydrogen, electrification, and energy storage technologies rapidly advancing, we are moving toward a clean, resilient, and net-zero economy.
- Green Hydrogen & Renewable Integration – Hydrogen will be a game-changer for heavy industries, transport, and energy storage, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
- EVs & Sustainable Mobility – The electrification of transport, along with hydrogen-powered fuel cells, will revolutionize urban and commercial mobility, supported by smart grids and decentralized energy solutions.
- Next-Gen Transportation: Hyperloop & MagLev – To truly revolutionize mobility, we must go beyond EVs and invest in ultra-high-speed, energy-efficient transport systems like Hyperloop and Magnetic Levitation (MagLev) trains. These low-carbon, high-speed transit systems can drastically cut emissions and reshape global connectivity.
Women must be at the forefront of this transformation—as researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. Increasing gender diversity in energy will bring inclusive decision-making, innovative solutions, and stronger policy frameworks. Through initiatives like Women in Green Hydrogen, we are ensuring that women not only participate but lead in shaping a sustainable future.
