Indian Railways Partners Indofast Energy To Drive Clean Mobility With Battery Swapping Stations in Hyderabad and Secunderabad Divisions

Indian Railways has joined hands with Indofast Energy, India’s leading battery-swapping solutions provider and 50-50 joint venture between energy giant IndianOil and sustainable mobility innovators SUN Mobility, to roll out a network of cutting-edge battery swapping stations at key railway hubs across Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions.

Under this partnership, 80 swap stations have been powered across 25 railway stations (56 swap stations under the Secunderabad division and 24 swap stations under Hyderabad division), while an additional 40 stations have been planned to be deployed in the next 3 months, giving a significant boost to the Government of India’s clean energy mission and to create a robust and sustainable energy infrastructure that supports the transition to electric mobility. From the commuters’ and business point of view, these swap stations aim to supercharge their daily lives and pave the way for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.

Spearheading this visionary initiative is South-Central Railway, with anticipation building for other divisions to join the electric wave. Indofast Energy will be the driving force behind establishing and operating these strategically located stations. Indofast Energy is on a mission to deploy over 10,000 swap stations across more than 40 cities within the next three years, aiming to empower over a million EV users with lightning-fast battery swaps.

Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, said, “Our operational stations in Hyderabad are already proving to be a lifeline for enhancing last-mile connectivity and empowering delivery services. The strong demand we’re witnessing underscores the urgent need for accessible and sustainable mobility solutions in our urban centers. We are immensely proud to partner with Indian Railways on this transformative journey and are excited to continue expanding this collaboration to build a greener, more efficient tomorrow, one swift swap at a time.”

R Gopalakrishnan, Divisional Railway Manager, South Central Railway, said, “Indian Railways is committed to driving sustainable innovation across our infrastructure and operations. This first-of-its-kind initiative with South Central Railway, in partnership with Indofast Energy, marks a significant step towards building cleaner and more efficient transit ecosystems. The deployment of battery swapping stations within our premises not only benefits passengers through faster, cleaner last-mile connectivity, but also serves the public by reducing emissions and congestion around station areas. This effort is closely aligned with the Railway Board’s policy guidelines on promoting e-mobility at railway stations, showcasing how public-private collaboration can accelerate green mobility across the country”.

This collaboration will benefit ride-sharing drivers, last-mile delivery partners, and daily commuters using electric two- and three-wheelers by eliminating range anxiety and boosting productivity through quick, convenient battery swaps. Strategically located within accessible areas of railway stations, the swap hubs are designed for ease of use and integration into daily travel routines. By offering fast, affordable, and reliable services, Indofast Energy is building a smart urban mobility ecosystem that strengthens public transit and supports the growing EV community, driving India towards a cleaner, more connected future.

This powerful alliance between Indian Railways and Indofast Energy signifies a monumental leap towards realizing a truly sustainable transportation ecosystem in India.
