The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) has announced the appointment of Debmalya Sen as its new President. He will resume the charge effective today.
Founded in 2012, by Customized Energy Solutions (CES), IESA’s vision is to make India a global hub for R&D, manufacturing, and adoption of advanced energy storage, e-mobility, and green hydrogen technologies. Today IESA is a proud network of 180+ member companies, encompassing industry verticals from energy storage, EV manufacturing, EV charging infrastructure, green hydrogen, microgrids, power electronics, renewable energy, research institutes and universities, and cleantech startups.
With significant experience in the energy sector spanning conventional power, renewable energy, energy storage, and green hydrogen, Debmalya brings a wealth of expertise to IESA. His leadership in emerging technologies, policy advocacy, and business development will play a critical role in advancing India’s energy storage ecosystem.
Prior to joining IESA, Debmalya served as India Lead – Advanced Energy Solutions at the World Economic Forum, where he spearheaded discussions on energy transition, policy frameworks, and emerging technologies, including energy storage and green hydrogen. He has also worked closely with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in shaping India’s energy storage policies.

IESA is aggressively supporting India’s Net Zero Goal through various initiatives. India Battery Manufacturing & Supply Chain Council (IBMSCC) is an initiative aimed at working on the complete development of the battery supply chain needed to support upcoming giga factories in India. India Electric Mobility Council (IEMC) has been created to explore opportunities to exploit potential of R&D, manufacturing of E-Mobility technologies and adoption of clean transport in India. The India Green Hydrogen Council (IGHC) is intended to explore opportunities for India to make the best use of the potential of R&D and manufacturing of green hydrogen technologies and the adoption of clean transport and industrial use. Stationary Energy Storage India (SESI) Council is focused on the roadmap and outlook for Stationary Energy Storage in India.
IESA’s Reuse & Recycling Council (IRRC) shares the battery recycling and reuse best practices present globally with a special focus on the battery collection mechanism and encourages research in battery recycling. IESA Startup and Innovation Initiative has been launched to identify the emerging startups from the Indian and International market who are interested to be accelerated in India with their breakthrough technology in Energy Storage, Green Hydrogen, and e-Mobility Sector.
