Delhi Government Starts Trial Run of Mohalla Electric Bus on Two Routes

With an aim to improve last-mile connectivity, the Delhi government has begun the trial run of the Mohalla bus service on two routes – Majlis Park to Pradhan Enclave and Akshardham to Mayur Vihar Phase III.

The announcement was made by Kailash Gahlot, Transport & Environment minister of Delhi. He further announced that the city would witness around 2,080 buses under the scheme by 2025 of which, 1,040 will be operated by the DTC and the others will be run by DIMTS.

Provided by JBM Group, 9m size Mohalla Electric buses will run on narrow and overcrowded roads where 12m size buses are unable to go. The buses will have a seating capacity of 23 people. With 196 kWh Battery capacity, the bus would be able to cover 120 to 130 km on a single charge.

The trial will go on for a week and based on the feedback, the scheme would be launched in two to three weeks.

The initiative of the Delhi government is a big step towards the electrification of public transportation.
