Dana India’s CSR Initiatives Enhance Water Security and Agriculture in Rural Maharashtra

Dana India has successfully completed its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Satara, Maharashtra. Focused on water management, agricultural productivity, and  environmental sustainability, these projects underscore the company’s dedication to  driving sustainable development in local communities.

Among the key initiatives this year was the rejuvenation of a pond and the repair of  leakages in Degaon village. This effort increased water storage capacity to 7.5 million  liters through de-siltation, ensuring clean water access for nearly 5,000 villagers and  1,000 cattle. The project supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals  (SDGs), specifically Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and Goal 15: Life on Land.

Additionally, Dana India introduced a Contour Canal Irrigation system in Chalkewadi  village. This initiative enabled year-round irrigation for 90 hectares of farmland,  directly benefiting approximately 1,000 villagers and 500 cattle. By reducing soil erosion  and contamination, the project also improved access to safe drinking water for livestock.  These efforts contribute to SDG Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, Goal 12:  Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 15: Life on Land.

Commenting on the impact of these initiatives, Gajanan Gandhe, Country Head and  Vice President of Dana India, said, “At Dana India, we are committed to addressing the  challenges faced by rural communities and their livestock. Our initiatives focus on  optimizing water resources and implementing sustainable solutions to mitigate the impact  of droughts and irregular rainfall. By supporting agriculture and reducing soil erosion, we  aim to create a lasting positive impact while ensuring access to safe water for both  villagers and their cattle.”

Dana India’s steadfast commitment to empowering communities through meaningful CSR  programs continues to position the company as a key contributor to sustainable development in Maharashtra and beyond.
